SBRI:

Making innovation funding more accessible

SBRI Healthcare funds early-stage healthcare innovations, often developed by people with personal experience of the problems they're trying to solve. They wanted to understand how they could make their funding more accessible to a wider range of applicants.

We focused on the experiences of disabled and neurodivergent founders, starting with user research to understand where people were encountering barriers and what would make the process work better for them.

Then we looked at the whole applicant experience: the website, application process, guidance, webinars, handbooks and digital content. We audited it for accessibility and inclusive content design, and turned what we found into practical recommendations for change.

But the aim wasn't just to fix what already existed. We created a set of resources SBRI could use going forward, giving their team practical guidance for designing clearer content, more accessible communications and more inclusive funding processes.

“Working with Sascha was incredibly valuable. The work has continued to influence how we think about accessibility and how we design our funding processes”
